A downloadable game for Windows

Welcome to A Scroll Down Memory Lane

a walking simulator developed as part of a Master’s thesis project.

This video game prototype is part of a voluntary research study on video game narratives. Participation involves completing short surveys before, during, and after gameplay. You may withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.

How to participate:

1. Proceed to the PRE-PLAY SURVEY available here:   https://forms.gle/kBgWuXsP3xsuVKym9

2. Go to the bottom of this page and download the game. Installation instructions are available below.

3. Play the game! Explore and have fun.  When you are done playing, please press "ESC" and click on the "Submit Gameplay Experience" button, and follow the instructions.

4. Once you've pasted your data on the Google form provided after the gameplay, please continue to fill out the post-play questionnaire.

If you have arrived here independently, you are more than welcome to participate either way! If you simply wish to play the game without participation, that is completely fine.

This game was developed independently by one person within the timespan of 6 weeks and is currently in an early alpha stage. As such, bugs, errors, or crashes may occur.

Known issues:
- The game may show a black screen after the "made in unity" screen and a moment to load before starting the game.

- Footstep sound doesn't work in downhill movement

- The memories will sometimes start but not play sound. This is resolved by pressing "ESC" and exit the memory, then start it again.

Download Instructions

1. Choose a file location where you want the game to be, and Download the game folder available below (it's less than 500MB).

2. Then, extract the .zip folder in the desired location. You will now see 7 different items. Please read the Readme file for futher information about how to play the game and information about the study.

3. To launch the game, double-click on the "A Scroll Down Memory Lane_HDRP" executable (.exe). This will start the game, and a consent form with all information and user agreement will appear.
